An arthroscopy is a minimal invasive procedure that permits the visualization of the interior of a joint with which we can establish a definitive diagnosis and in most cases give the surgical treatment at the same time.
This procedure is done troug a 5 mm stab incision where an arthroscope is inserted and generally a second 5mm incision for the use of the hand instruments.
The hand instruments that are used include a shaver as well as various types of forceps and most importantly a Radio Frequency instrument which lets us ablate abnormal soft tissue with minimum trauma giving the patient a fast and full recovery with minimal or no pain en their post surgery period.
This procedure is generally done with regional anesthesia and only in some cases general anesthesia is necessary (as in shoulder arthroscopy). In most cases this type of surgery is done as an outpatient procedure.
